Appendix 4. Menus.

This appendix lists the menu options and their corresponding toolbar button.

For instructions on activating and configuring the toolbars at the top of the design screen see Toolbars for further details.

File

Button Name Description
New Starts a new design.
Open... Open an existing plan.
Save Save the current plan. If the plan has been saved already, it will automatically save to the current file name. If the plan has not been saved previously you will be prompted to specify a file name and location to save to.
Save As... Save the current plan. You will be prompted for a file name and location even if this plan has been saved already.
Export DXF Export the current design as a 3D DXF. You will be prompted for a file name and location.
Explort Plan as DXF Export the current plan as a 2D DXF. You will be prompted for a file name and location.
Export Elevation as DXF Export the current elevation as a 2D DXF. You will be prompted for a file name and location.
Load unit group Loads a previously saved unit group.
Save unit group... Save any of the currently active unit groups.
Printer setup... Change the printer, paper size etc used when printing. See Creating page layouts for further information.
Select room system... Switch between the Kitchen, Bathroom or Bedroom and Studies room systems.
Select manufacturers codes... Select the manufacturer codes to use when designing. Design In Code is not a standard feature and you should only change the manufacturer codes once instructed how to use Design In Code by ArtiCAD Technical Support.
Run wizard... Run a wizard. Choose the wizard you wish to run from the list and click "OK". Do not run a wizard unless you know what it does as it may damage your design. Keyboard shortcut "Control" (sometimes "Ctrl") and "W".
Abort wizard... Stop a running wizard. Should a wizard stop responding to your commands you can use this option to stop it. Should be used as a last resort.
Upgrade Upgrade your dongle. You will only need to access this menu when asked by ArtiCAD Technical Support.
Exit Exit the ArtiCAD system.

Edit

Button Name Description
N/A Use keyboard Toggle the "Select..." button and box at the top of the design screen on or off.
N/A Use toolbar Toggle the unit toolbar down the left-hand side of the design screen on or off.
N/A Show Progress Bar Toggle the progress bar along the bottom of the design screen on or off.
Undo Undo the last action (add/edit/delete an item). You can keep undoing changes back to the start of your design OR changes since the last 3D view, whichever was more recent. Keyboard shortcut is "Control" (sometimes "Ctrl") and "Z".
Redo If you have used "Undo" to cancel an action, "Redo" will cancel the undo i.e. it undoes your undo. Keyboard shortcut is "Control" (sometimes "Ctrl") and "Shift" and "Z".
Delete Delete the currently selected item. Keyboard shortcut is the "Delete" (sometimes "Del") key.
Duplicate If you have an item selected, duplicate will add another item identical to the one selected. If no item is selected, another item identical to the last item added to the design will be created. Keyboard shortcut is "F9".
Forward Select the item added after the currently selected item. See Adding units (alternate method) for details. Keyboard shortcut is the right cursor key.
Backward Select the item added before the currently selected item. See Adding units (alternate method) for details. Keyboard shortcut is the left cursor key.
Up level Select the layer above the currently the one you are currently working in i.e. if you are in the "Wall Units" layer, it will select "Base Units". See Adding units (alternate method) for details. Keyboard shortcut is the up cursor key.
Down level Select the layer below the currently the one you are currently working in i.e. if you are in the "Base Units" layer, it will select "Wall Units". See Adding units (alternate method) for details. Keyboard shortcut is the down cursor key.
Edit selected item Allows you to alter the properties of the currently selected item. Keyboard shortcut is "F1". In "Drag and Drop" mode right-click on the item and select "Edit properties".
Set measurement cursor... Used in "Normal Mode". Superceded by the Measurement Line in Drag and Drop mode. See Measurement Line for details.
Measurement line Used in "Normal Mode". Superceded by the Measurement Line in Drag and Drop mode. See Measurement Line for details.
Mirror vertical Used in "Normal Mode". Redraws your design as if it has been mirrored around a vertical line running down the center of your design.
Mirror horizontal Used in "Normal Mode". Redraws your design as if it has been mirrored around a horizontal line running across the center of your design.

View

Button Name Description
Zoom normal Used in "Normal Mode", "Edit Lighting" and "Edit Dimensions and Labels". Returns to the original zoom level.
Zoom 2X Used in "Normal Mode", "Edit Lighting" and "Edit Dimensions and Labels". Maginifies the plan 2X. Use the scroll bars down the right hand side and along the bottom of the planning screen to move the plan. Use "Zoom normal" to return to the original zoom level.
Zoom 4X Used in "Normal Mode", "Edit Lighting" and "Edit Dimensions and Labels". Magnifies the plan 4X. Use the scroll bars down the right hand side and along the bottom of the planning screen to move the plan. Use "Zoom normal" to return to the original zoom level.
Zoom 8X Used in "Normal Mode", "Edit Lighting" and "Edit Dimensions and Labels". Maginifies the plan 8X. Use the scroll bars down the right hand side and along the bottom of the planning screen to move the plan. Use "Zoom normal" to return to the original zoom level.
Plan Returns to the plan view from another mode or view.
Plan options Options for the display of the plan when designing.
Grid options Options for the scale grid when designing.
Elevation Generate an elevation of the currently selected wall. See Viewing your design - Elevations for details.
Elevation options Options for generating elevations. See Viewing your design - Elevations for details.
N/A Customise toolbars Options for changing the toolbars at the top of the screen. See Toolbars for details.
N/A Show all toolbars Show all available toolbars. See Toolbars for details.
N/A Hide all toolbars. Remove all toolbars from the top of the screen. See Toolbars for details.
3D Perspective - Set position Set the camera position for 3D views of your design. See Viewing your design - Set Position for details.
3D Perspective - Normal view Create a view based on your last camera position. See Viewing your design for details.
3D Perspective - Back against selected wall Create a view looking into the look from the currently selected wall. See Viewing your design - Back Against Selected Wall for details.
3D Perspective - Birds Eye view Create a view looking down onto your design. See Viewing your design - Birds Eye View for details.
3D Perspective - Set up multiple views Create a series of 3D views of your design. See Viewing your design for details.
3D Perspective - Standard view ArtiCAD will attemp to place the camera in a sensible position in your design.
3D Perspective - Save camera Save the current camera position. See Viewing your design for details.
3D Perspective - Load camera Load a previously saved camera position. See Viewing your design for details.
3D Options Options for generating 3D views of your design. See Viewing your design for details.
Store image Store the image currently on screen for use in a page layout. See Viewing your design and Page layouts for details.
Previous image Show the image generated previous to the current image.

Mode

Button Name Description
Normal Change to "Normal" mode. Equivalent to clicking on the "Normal Mode" button on the "Utilities Window".
Set up 3D View Set the camera position for 3D views of your design. See Viewing your design - Set Position for details.
Set up multiple 3D views Create a series of 3D views of your design. See Viewing your design for details.
Page layout Enter the Page layout system. See Page Layouts for details.
Edit lighting Edit the lighting in your design. See Lighting Your Design for details.
Edit dimensions and labels Move and edit the dimensions and labels on your plan.
Drag and drop Change to Drag and Drop mode. See Drag and Drop for details.

Window

Button Name Description
Browse images See your currently stored images. See Page Layouts for details.
New window Create an additional design window.
Designer's notes A text box into which you can type any notes about this design.
Utilities Makes the Utilities Window appear/disappear. See Utilities Window for details.

Photo realism colours Specify the colours used in this design. See Changing colours for details.

Button Name Description
Parts list Generate the parts list for this design. See Reports - Parts list for details.
Configure parts list Change the information and level of detail given in the parts list. See Reports - Parts list for details.

Special

Button Name Description
Metric measurements Switch between metric and imperial measurements.
Select language Select the language to work in. Will change the menus and labels into the selected language.
Edit global INI Change various default settings for the whole system. See Changing defaults for details.
Edit current room system INI Change various default settings for the specific to the current room system. See Changing defaults for details.
Reset room properties Forces units to re-initialise themselves based on the current defaults. Should only be used when told to do so by Technical Support.
N/A Plan colours Change the colours used to draw the plan. Not to be confused with Photo Realism Colours. Do not change unless you have been instructed to do so by Technical Support.
N/A 3D Line drawing colours Change the colours used when generating a 3D line drawing. Not to be confused with Photo Realism Colours. NOTE - these colours are used when generating the preview line drawing when changing "Style". Do not change unless you have been instructed to do so by Technical Support.
